FAQ

Just a few common questions you might be thinking. Please feel free to use the contact page if you have a question that's not listed.

Do I need a fishing license?

You actually don't! The State of North Carolina normally requires everyone fishing to obtain a fishing license. However, we have a special license that covers all guests aboard the boat.

Can I bring more than 6 people?

Unfortunately not. The United States Coast Guard sets a limit based on the boat and license class of the captain. Most boats, with a few exceptions, will be limited to 6  people not counting crew.

3

Will I Get Seasick?

This cannot be answered for sure. However, the Cost of Living is a SeaKeeper equipped boat. This means the boat is gyro-stabilized which greatly reduces your chances of becoming seasick. this is not a guarantee though. For OTC I personally recommend Bonine(active ingredient meclizine). The Scopolamine patch is also available by prescription works really well. Anything with ginger is also really good for nausea and is natural.

4

What if the weather is bad?

Bad weather happens, it's just part of it. Unless you hear from the captain, assume your trip is still scheduled. If for whatever reason the captain decides it's unsafe to go, we will do everything possible to get you rescheduled for a time that works for you. If in the unfortunate event that can't be accomplished, any fees you've paid will be expeditiously refunded.

I see mates work for tips, is that true?

Yes! Charter boat mates are one of the hardest working group of people there are. His work day starts the day before you arrive. It's his job to rig the rods, ice the boat, fuel the boat, and pre-clean prior to your arrival. He will then be at the boat around 4am to set out rods, start thawing bait, help check mechanicals. Then a full day on the back of the boat, all to come to the dock to help unload and finally wash the boat to get ready for the next group. Please be considerate of this. 20% tip is customary and well earned for a 16+ hr workday.

Do you clean the fish?

Wanchese marina offers fish cleaning service if you do not wish to clean your catch. They will pick the fish up at the back of the boat. you can then go get something to eat or drink at the marina grill and then pick your fish up at the fish house. Check with the marina for rates

What if I think of questions last minute?

Always feel free to call the captain or use the contact form. Captain Zack loves talking to people about their trips and would much rather you be prepared than show up to something you weren't ready for. You are highly encouraged just to call and talk about your trip
